A colocation centre can be distinguished from other business structures by the large number of air conditioning gear visible from outside. Tight security is often associated with such premises, with a round the clock guard. The majority of them have installed CCTV surveillance and biometric security systems for screening all visitors to the site.

The collective purchasing power associated with the facilities enables them to put up the most advanced power back up measures. They may use automatic generation units or have their mains supplied by different supply lines as a means of risk reduction. A small upcoming center will have to request all clients to install their own Uninterrupted Power Supply units alongside their gadgets.

As one may expect, colocation centres are high fire risk areas and special measures have to be employed to avoid it at all costs. They use sensitive smoke detectors that serve as a warning system immediately smoldering occurs in overheated components. Advanced systems use automatic extinguisher systems and firewalls to contain such calamities.
