I've been a Web marketing expert for 3 years now, and while this in no way makes me an expert, it has put me in contact with a number of small business owners who make their living on the internet. I've had the good fortune to have extended discussions with many of these folks, and the only thing that sticks out in my mind is the sheer number of them who are doing all the proper things where the promoting is concerned, and who are paying tiny, if any attention to the notion of web security.
There's small thought given to the need to find some means of defence against hacking, and very few plans in place to get over a successful security breech. These are folks whose awfully business depends on the continuing existence of their online foothold!
Since discovering that sad fact, it has become a bit of an obsession for me, and I've since had the similarly good fortune to meet a talented Internet security specialist. I still don't know everything there is to know on the topic ( some distance from it, in fact ), but I'm learning more each day, and I know that it is simply a question of time before a crafty hacker puts me in the cross hairs and tries to wreck my business.
That's true for all of us, sadly. That is correct for everybody who has a business with a web portal of any sort. The numbers just simply aren't on the same side as us, and our day will come. When your day comes, will you be ready? Have you taken steps to protect your info? Have you secured your info against all but the most determined hacking attacks, and have you got plans in place to recover if such an attack succeeds?
If you are like a shocking number of business ladies and men I have spoken with, then you may not have even considered these things, and if you haven't then I urge you to do that. Sooner, rather than later on because the clock is running, and you never can tell when they will set their sites on you.
